Camfed has received numerous awards for our innovative work. Here are just a few of the accolades that have come our way:
“Top 35 women under 35” honour for Camfed’s Deputy Executive Director (2007)

Camfed’s Deputy Executive Director and Director of Policy and Programmes Lucy Lake was nominated as one of the top 35 business women under the age of 35 by the magazine Management Today.
Honorary Doctorate from Cambridge University for Camfed’s Executive Director (2007)
Camfed’s Founder and Executive Director Ann Cotton was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Law from the University of Cambridge, alongside former weapons inspector Hans Blix and economic adviser Sir Nicholas Stern.
International Honour for Camfed Zimbabwe’s Executive Director (2006)

Camfed Zimbabwe’s Executive Director Angeline Mugwendere – who was one of the first young women to be supported through school by Camfed – was awarded the Prize for Women’s Creativity in Rural Life by the Women’s World Summit Foundation in Switzerland.
OBE for Camfed's Executive Director Ann Cotton (2006)
Camfed's Founder and Executive Director Ann Cotton was awarded an OBE in the 2006 Queen's New Year Honours List in recognition of her services to girls' education in rural Africa.
Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship (2005)
In March 2005, at the second annual Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship, Camfed was awarded the prestigious Skoll Foundation Award for Social Entrepreneurship by eBay founder Jeff Skoll. The award came with a grant of $505,000 to invest in Camfed’s growth over the next 3 years.
Beacon Prize (2005)
In July 2005, Ann Cotton was announced the winner of a Beacon Prize, alongside celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and global campaigner Sir Bob Geldof. The Beacon Prize celebrates and raises the profile of charitable giving in the UK by giving recognition to those who have made a significant contribution to charity, whether through giving resources, time or specialist skills.
UK Social Entrepreneur of the Year (2004)
Ann Cotton, Camfed’s Founder and Executive Director, was named the UK Social Entrepreneur of the Year for 2004 in recognition of her work with Camfed. The Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, sponsored by Ernst and Young, Coutts and Co., The London Stock Exchange and The Times, were established as a way to identify, honour and support outstanding business leaders in the corporate and social sectors.
International Aid and Development Charity of the Year (2003)
In June 2003, Camfed was voted International Aid & Development Charity of the Year at the annual Charity Awards, organised by Charity Finance. A panel of nine judges from finance, law and charitable sectors stressed that they were particularly impressed with the excellent relations that Camfed builds with African communities where programmes are in place.
