The Learning Circle Project: Wahala

‘Wahala’ is a film by Camfed’s Learning Circle project in Ghana that addresses the gender and power dynamics at work in the highly patriarchal society of Northern Ghana. The filmmakers examine the challenges women are facing in making critical choices, including on their health and economic independence.

Camfed’s Learning Circle project is a participatory filmmaking venture, based in northern Ghana, involving a group of local women and young girls who are all experiencing the harsh realities of discrimination either because of their disability, lack of education and poverty or through their work with marginalised communities. The group makes films on pressing social issues that affect their lives and screens them in the local community to stimulate debate and change.
